There’s fewer things I love seeing more …
Actually, there’s a bit of comic element in this otherwise great tune. Knowing what little I know of Avril Lavigne’s music, the comparison is blindingly obvious. Add in the fact that Krytal is singing a song about anti-conformity and you get a sense of the irony at play here. I mean, isn’t it enough that I have to see 13-year old kids leaving Hot Topic stores thinking they’ve attained some sort of punk nirvana? Back in my day, we had to risk our lives for that sorta street cred.
Still, the song rocks and Krystal Meyers has a great voice … not to mention a LOT of quality years ahead of her. She’s since put out a new album, dug deeper into her mom’s makeup kit, and put out a somewhat milder second CD (ed. note – anti-what-ity?!?!).
What cracks me up about the whole thing is how bands in that second-generation wave of Christian music (again … “my day”) used to have comparisons slapped on them as a way to pigeonhole them among Christian record labels. I still remember the horror of those days when Leslie Philips left Christian music altogether because she was tired of being pegged as the Christian Cyndi Lauper.
Some thing just never seem to change, however.
SIDENOTE: I suppose it’s even more comical that, while watching this video again, I’m struck with the following question: “I Wonder where I can get a Space Invaders t-shirt like that?” This is the closest I find. Maybe I’m just getting more and more conformist in my old age.
